Don't like it. I don't think it gives off a bad message, I just think that when I think about the Phrase "Going through the motions" it brings to mind the wasted way we live in today's world. So often we are going through the motions in our day or even in our walk with God. To me the Phrase "Going through the motions" implies a lack of thought put into your actions and that is done WAY to much in our world. I understand the idea you are presenting with your quote but I think it brings to much of a negative spin to the table that most people might have a had time getting past. Just my thoughts.
"Going through the motions" the thought that comes to mind is most american Christians today. We fail to live the life God desires for us. John 10:10 says he came to give us life, life more abundanty! Most christains will never experiance Gods blessings here on earth because they dont live for Him here on earth. Most beleivers are just that beleivers, not Followers of Christ, and they just go through the motions of being a good Christian, God didnt call us to "be good Christians" he called us to a Live of sacrifice, A life to where it is not about us, and most american Christians, lets face it most of their life is about themselves.
"Going through the motions" to me brings to mind someone whose heart is not in it. God doesn't NEED what we give. He blesses what we give WILLINGLY, not grudgingly. He asks for us to be cheerful givers. God wants our hearts to be in what we are giving to Him. Not that we are doing it to be seen, out of guilt, or any of that.
