Yesterday at our services, we began the service by singing "Happy Day" by Tim Hughes and Ben Cantalon (recorded by Fee). The chorus is a simple one to learn, with deceptively simple lyrics:
For those of us who've grown up in the church, this is a tougher song to sing with genuineness than it is for those who came to meet Christ without having been in a church environment. After all, if we've been doing the "church" thing all of our lives, what is there to change -- what will "never be the same"?
I mean, most of those reading this probably haven't turned from an outwardly rebellious way of life. We may have felt that we already led a pretty good life to start with. If that's the case, why would we need this new life, and what's so "new" about it?
"Those who accept my commandments and obey them are the ones who love me. And because they love me, my Father will love them. And I will love them and reveal myself to each of them." (Jesus speaking to His disciples in John 14:21, NLT)
Jesus washing our sin away will result in our never being the same again. Maybe the reason I feel like we've turned this into a trite statement is because I was guilty of making it into one...?
