If you haven't done it already, you've really got to read Jeff Miller's post on Symbolic Worship. The post and subsequent commentary are pretty thought-provoking. In particular, James Nahrgang's comment about the origin of the podium's use in church settings was quite interesting. Who'd'a thunk it? I've gotta go check Snopes now... :)
