The light goes off when the refrigerator door is closed; I am convinced of this. The impact of a tree hitting the ground in an unoccupied forest makes vibrations and therefore produces sound. Death, taxes, the lot of it... These things are all inevitable unless the little button is broken off inside of your fridge. Then there's no telling what might happen. I think it might cause some sort of rift in the space/time continuum, but I'm not really sure.
Sci-fi aside, God is going to be doing something today through someone.
Seriously.
There was a Bibly study that was very popular a few years back (so much so that I think it even spawned a jewelry line... Not really, but it was extremely popular...) called Experiencing God. The two points I remember most out of that whole in-depth, multi-week study were: 1) God is at work around us, and 2) He wants us to join Him where He's working.
Some days it's just difficult for the Christ-follower to really "feel" that God is anywhere. I'm not talking here about the emotionally smashing days where everything seems dark; those are the worst. I'm talking about the mediocre days where we just get up and go through the motions of the day. Apathy is a real bummer.
A parent doesn't have to force himself to realize that he has children each day (he just knows after seeing these strange little people in his house repeatedly). That's the way those of us who call God our Father should cultivate our thinking. In Psalm 139:7, David asks God, "Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from Your presence?" He then answers his question by writing about a number of places that ultimately reply, "Nowhere."
God is at work around you. Around me. He'll be at it again tomorrow just like He was yesterday. I'd much rather be a part of it than not, and the good thing is that He wants you and me to be a part of whatever that work is. Wherever your apathy meter falls today, go and find out what it is that He's doing -- start in the Word and keep it up by talking with Him -- and jump in!
Manga, anyone?
