Wisdom or Status?

13 Here is another bit of wisdom that has impressed me as I have watched the way our world works. 14 There was a small town with only a few people, and a great king came with his army and besieged it. 15 A poor, wise man knew how to save the town, and so it was rescued. But afterward no one thought to thank him. 16 So even though wisdom is better than strength, those who are wise will be despised if they are poor. What they say will not be appreciated for long.

17 Better to hear the quiet words of a wise person
than the shouts of a foolish king.
18 Better to have wisdom than weapons of war,
but one sinner can destroy much that is good.

- Ecclesiastes 9:13-18, NLT (emphases mine)

Do you find yourself giving more respect to those who have wisdom or to those who have status? Why?

Thanks to InterVarsity Press for today's pointed thought.

To be wise/ One that speaks the truth. Remembers the past an learns from it. Wanting to seek out knowledge. Passes on his or her wisdom for others to pass it on an learn. Knowing your limitations. To be cautious, but not afraid.
Statis/ Wealth. Popular. Material items. Appearence. Party Time.
One who speaks just to be heard.
Now those were some examples of both. Would you want to be with a "Wise Person." or a person who has "Statis." Easy answer. Put 2 sinners in a room full of Belivers. The 2 sinners dont know each other. But they always end up together.
Belivers, both followers like myself an leaders. Look to those who are of wisdom. Why, because we want to know the truth. We dont want to live a false life. Those who arent interested are more likely to be pulled to the examples listed due to there fun. an its all about me. An i live for today. Who cares what happens tommorow. Thats living with blinders on...Respect is earned. But notice how a sinner if they want something will be Respectful to the Status. but refuse to go to someone of wisdom. Due to they dont want to hear the truth. The truth will set you free. But it might hurt for alittle while. Than you become wise.
am I close.........JK
