So Many Possible Captions, So Little Space...

There's obviously some requirement that says every city with a certain population level must have a Wal Mart or two or seven, so when my son and I saw this souvenir display at our local Wal Mart store, I thought, "Ah! So this is what Wal Mart says about the identity of north Alabama." The items shown were on the shelf right below the shot glasses.

And for some reason I thought of Miracle on 34th Street -- the part where the U.S. Postal Service delivered all those letters to Kris Kringle, thus verifying his identity as Santa Claus.

Is Wal Mart a government entity yet? Hmm...

Back when I was spending a lot of time working at a power plant in Canada, we were in a town where the population was pretty low (relatively speaking), something like 12 or 17 thousand people (the whole county, or whatever they have there in Canada, wasn't much more). However, they had 3 1/2 "Tim Horton's" (a donut/pastry and coffee shop, although they also had lunch items). (The 1/2 was the smaller, inside the A&P grocery store one; I didn't consider that a full Tim Horton's.) Funny how certain cultures have certain things they like; we like our wal-marts, they like their donut shops (there was, believe it or not, another donut shop or two besides the venerable Tim Horton's chain).

Oh, and they had this steak place, the "Dallas Steakhouse," where they made a big deal about western, cowboy, etc. And right there on the menu were "centre-cut pork chops."

I did see a giant Confederate flag painted on a barn though; that seemed a little out of place in Canada.

Ok, enough of my nothing for today...

You have to admit though...no matter how many universities we have in the state or Mercedies plants we will never rise above a certain stereotype. Yes, I will admit that those stereotypes are still alive and well in some parts of EVERY county in AL. However, I think the educated and those that brush their teeth everyday out-number them by far.

As far as Wal-Mart goes....too crowded, the lines are too long, there are always boxes in the isles that I can't get around, and I feel like I need a bath after leaving!!! I only go there for eye exams and if I'm really desperate for something that they carry. I would rather go to the dentist!!! I hate the dentist!!
